Jules Verne, H.G. Wells, & the Birth of Sci-Fi

Article Date
November 2, 2020

Illinois singer/songwriter/historian Barry Cloyd will be back at the Chatham Area Public Library (virtually) to share stories and songs about the creation of the science fiction genre. Join us via Zoom on Thursday, November 19 at 6:00 p.m. for his program.

Barry Cloyd’s performance will be about Jules Verne and H.G. Wells, as well as other lesser known names as they delved into the human consciousness and creativity. Some people laughed at their ideas of flying machines, submarines, time travel, and aliens, while others celebrated them. Cloyd’s variety of instruments and his songs, both well-known and originals, help teleport the audience to a time of wonder and imagination.

Cloyd has performed at the Library in the past and brings such a captivating energy. He makes learning about people and time periods fun and entertaining; you’ll be singing and clapping along.
