On April 15, 1861, Lincoln called for 75,000 volunteers to fight for the Union.  The war was only supposed to last 90 days. However, it lasted 4 long years.  This presentation by Gene Walker, a Civil War re-enactor, will describe his great grandfather’s life as an Illinois farm boy who volunteered, fought and endured during these 4 long years. Along with the presentation, Mr. Walker will also talk about the uniforms that the soldiers had to wear during the brutal hot summers and the frigid winters.
